Committee: Public Enterprises
Video The Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises convened virtually to consider the Committee’s Legacy Report and the report on the former Director-General’s allegations of irregularities involved in the cancelled South African Airways-Takatso strategic equity partnership. The Committee received a presentation on the Legacy Report, which indicated that its previous suggestions regarding the structure of the report had been accepted and the necessary changes made. There had been a suggestion to include why the Committee had been unable to complete some activities, such as study tours, international agreements and statutory appointments. This would assist the next administration in not falling into the same trap and ensure that the next Committee completed all these activities. The Legacy Report was adopted. The Committee also received a presentation on the draft report on the petition of the former Director-General on allegations of irregularity in the cancelled SAA-Takatso strategic equity partnership transaction. The Committee maintained its recommendation that the matter had to be referred to the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), or another body that was equipped with the expertise to fully investigate the matter, before further conclusions could be made on the matter. Concern was expressed at the letter received from the Minister, which had singled out the Chairperson. The Committee felt that this was disrespectful, and emphasised that decisions relayed by the Chairperson were decisions of the whole Committee. The Chairperson noted that as a person of interest in the report, the Minister was likely to have ill feelings about the matter, and encouraged the Committee to not focus on the letter, as it had fulfilled the request made by the Speaker.
