The DSBD emphasised its commitment to addressing systemic issues to prevent similar problems in the future. Committee Members raised various concerns during the discussion. Some questioned the Department's approval mechanisms and the viability of business plans, while others highlighted potential conflicts of interest involving Department officials. There was debate over whether the complainant's debt should be written off, with some members cautioning against setting a negative precedent. The Committee also stressed the importance of neutrality and suggested further investigations to ensure fairness. The DSBD responded by outlining measures to strengthen support for entrepreneurs, including the amalgamation of SEFA and the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), and the introduction of new product offerings to better protect business assets. The second major agenda item was the adoption of the Limpopo Oversight Visit report, which assessed the effectiveness of DSBD and SEFA programmes in supporting small businesses. Committee Members praised the report but proposed additional recommendations, such as expanding SEFA's national footprint to improve rural access and addressing issues like corruption and mismanagement in intermediary incubation agencies. Specific cases, such as the misallocation of a presidential award within a cooperative, were highlighted as areas needing further scrutiny. The report was unanimously adopted, with the Committee urging timely implementation of its recommendations.
