In South Africa, extended droughts are becoming more frequent. Whenever a prolonged drought occurs, it triggers a water crisis. In extreme cases, dams run so low that the overall water security of an entire city is threatened, e.g., the case of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, City of Cape Town, and Makhanda. Drought in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is not new.
